Ormiston 2 Burntisland Shipyard 0

Poor show from disappointing Shipyard.

The last couple of weeks have been hard luck stories after good performances against Selkirk and Leith but there was no misfortune against Ormiston as the Shipyard turned in a thoroughly abject display losing 2-0 at the Hibernian Training Centre.

It was a tough watch on a bitterly cold day in East Lothian as too many Shippy players simply failed to turn up. Ormiston weren’t brilliant by any stretch of the imagination but they didn’t have to be as it was all to easy for them. The Shipyard were guilty of overplaying as they attempted five passes when one would have been enough, with all of this meaning very few chances were created. The one outstanding chance the Shipyard did have was wasted when Sam Glancy blasted the ball straight at the keeper when he was clean through on goal early in the second half, with the home team only leading 1-0 at the time.

Rab Kinnaird had a shot deflected wide in the 16th minute, Brodie Hamilton ran the ball out of play when Ormiston keeper Aaron Jones raced out to challenge him after he received a great pass from Craig Watt and a rising shot from young Watt was the sum of the Shipyard attempts in the first half. Ormiston took the lead in the 29th minute when Sam Tulloch scored at the second attempt after Ryan Connor did well to block his first effort. On the stroke of the half time Connor denied Ormiston a second when he held a powerful strike from Tulloch.

Glancy missed that glorious chance five minutes after the restart but Ormiston began to create chances as they attempted to capitalise on the Shipyard defence’s high line. Ormiston’s second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first as Connor blocked the initial shot but could do nothing about the follow up. Marc Kustra and Scott Bonar both rattled the crossbar with long range efforts before Connor Welsh volleyed over from a decent position. As the game drew to a close Hamilton produced a great jinking run to get into the Ormiston area but he was eventually crowed out and the chance went a begging

With manager Grant Brough unavailable for the game today his assistant Stuart Innes spoke briefly after the match saying “We were really poor today. We never got going at all and created very little”.
