Shipyard Embarrassed and humiliated.
The Shipyard were quite simply blow away by Lowland League Spartans at Ainslie Park in what should have been a humiliating day for all concerned with the Club. Yes, Spartans are a top side but the way the team capitulated, particularly in the second half, was embarrassing.
Two goals from Errol Douglas and one from Kevin Motion had the hosts 3-0 up at half time. In the second half Douglas helped himself to another two goals and also on the score sheet were Gary Cennerazzo, Keith McLeod, with substitutes Michael Bruce and Craig Stevenson making it nine. Jordan Mushet in the Shipyard goal did well to keep it below double figures as he made a few decent saves.
Caretaker manager James Lock did not mince his words after the match when he said “It was clear to see today that some players had given up and that’s the most disappointing thing. Against a good side it was an opportunity for players to prove a point and prove they have the winning mentality to compete against players in higher leagues. That’s obviously not the case and is something that will need to be addressed by the manager when the decision is made this week. We have a few injuries at the moment and with Craig picking up a knock during the game, we’ll have to make sure the squad are in as best condition as possible ahead of the game this weekend”.
