Bowhill Rovers. 3 Burntisland Shipyard. 0
The Shipyard turned in another poor performance against a hard working Bowhill side at Wallsgreen Park on a very poor pitch. Hardie, Reid and Huskie came into the side after being substitutes on Tuesday against Kinross. Cook and Millar were also back after serving suspensions. It was good to see gareth Jack back in the squad after a long lay off due to injury.
The Shipyard had the first effort on goal when Cook headed over from a Brown corner after 5 minutes. In 18 minutes Bowhill had a good chance but failed to hit the target, 5 minutes later they wasted another opportunity by shooting wide from a good position. Next it was the Shipyard to go close when Johnston had a shot that the keeper gathered easily. Brown then came to the Shipyard’s rescue after Chalmers was beaten by a header, he got back to clear the ball from a yard out. In 28 minutes the Bowhill keeperLennox pulled off a great save tipping a long range Millar effort over the bar. Bowhill took the lead in the 34th minute when Gay was given far too much space on the left hand side and was allowed to run through unchallenged and drill the ball past Chalmers and into the net. A ball across the face of the Shipyard goal in the 43rd minute should have been turned in but there were no takers.
The second half started with Bowhill on the attack and Chalmers was called into action but gathered easily. Bristow shot wide for the Shipyard after 54 minutes but, 2 minutes later it was Chalmers again called into action, this time producing a fine double save to deny the Bowhill forwards. The Shipyard were now having a spell of pressure and Millar had a 25yard shot saved by the keeper. In the 62nd minute lennox pulled off a magnificent save, when after Cook had headed a cross down, Bristow turned and shot in one movement but, somehow the keeper managed to get a hand to the ball and turn it over. This seemed to deflate the Shipyard and Bowhill went onto control the rest of the game, playing long balls in behind the Shipyard defence and creating one on one chances. In 65 minutes Chalmers could only parry an effort and Bowhill followed up to score easily. Bowhill scored a similar goal after 84 minutes, this time the ball rebounded off the post to the waiitng striker, who knocked the ball into the net. The Shipyard had a couple of free-kick efforts in the closing stages but, neither really troubled the keeper.
