Burntisland Shipyard. 2 Balgonie Scotia. 0

The Shipyard returned to action after a 6 week break due to the holidays and bad weather and kept their good run going by seeing of Scotia with 2 second half goals at Recreation Park.

The pitch was in reasonable condition after all the snow and frost and it was Scotia who settled first and had the better of the early exchanges without really testing the home keeper. However, that was to change after 22 minutes when keeper Scott Chalmers brought down a Scotia player in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Chalmers more than made up for his error by diving low to his right to save the penalty. All of the Shipyard efforts were from long range, although both Millar and Hamilton went close. Scotia were still creating chances but, at the other end it was Cook who went closest when his header from a corner hit the top of the bar and went over. It remained all square at half time.

The second half started with a shot from O’Hanlon deflected into the Scotia keepers hands and a long range effort from Noble going just wide. The Shipyard were more on top in this half and after 64 minutes substitute Brough should have opened the scoring but shot narrowly wide. The opening goal arrived 3 minutes later when given a similar chance, Mark Brough this time made no mistake sliding the ball past the keeper. Muirhead then went close with a free kick and Eadie in the Scotia goal made a good save from Johnston. The Shipyard made 2-0 in the last minute when Neil Johnston finished from 8 yards after a great ball from Brown.

At the end of the day it was a deserved win for the Shipyard but only for the second half performance.
