Burntisland Shipyard 1 Raith Rovers 2

Shippy lose by odd goal to Rovers.

The Shipyard gave the Rovers a scare in the Fife Cup Semi Final as the visitors had to come from behind to beat their local rivals. Despite some late pressure, the Shipyard could not get an equaliser to send the match to penalties. Probably with an eye on Saturday’s Scottish Cup match the manager left a couple of guys out of the sixteen altogether, though he had threatened to make changes after being disappointed with his team’s performance last Saturday. The Rovers had a mixture of first team, fringe and youth players in their sixteen. Continue Reading

Eyemouth United 2 Burntisland Shipyard 2

Shippy blow chance to progress in cup.

The Shipyard failed to progress through the group stages and into the quarter finals of the East of Scotland Qualifying League Cup as they were held to a 2-2 draw with Eyemouth United at Warner Park. Civil Service Strollers’ 1-1 draw with Spartans EOS means that it is them who progress by the virtue of conceding one goal less than the Shipyard having both secured four points and both scoring five goals. It should never have came to that situation as the Shipyard really should have came away from Eyemouth with the three points but a series of missed opportunities, particularly in the first half, and a lack of composure in the final few minutes allowed the home team to secure a draw. Shippy lose out in five goal thriller.

Despite playing for seventy two minutes with only ten men it was only the width of the post that denied the Shipyard a share of the spoils at Ainslie Park. Having taken the lead early on and then pegged back, a straight red card for Shaun Keatings made it look like it was going to be a long night for the Shipyard. The signs were ominous when Spartans went ahead but Keith Buckley scored his second of the night to draw the visitor’s level but another goal for Spartans just before half-time which turned out to be the winner, sealed the Shipyard’s fate. Craig Lowe, Kevin Masson and JP McPhail dropped out of the squad from Saturday and they were replaced by Brendan Napier, Adam Doig and Daniel Watt.

Burntisland Shipyard 1 Civil Service Strollers 0

Hendo heads Shippy to victory.

The Shipyard got their season off to a winning start with a single goal victory over Civil Service Strollers at a windswept Recreation Park. After all the recent good weather it was like a winter’s day with a strong easterly wind with the odd heavy shower thrown in. Myles stuck with the same eleven that had started the midweek friendly against Bathgate and also had the same subs from the 2-2 draw. Continue Reading
