Burntisland Shipyard 0-4 Sauchie

League campaign starts with defeat.

The Shipyard got their League campaign underway on Wednesday night and they can be under no illusions as to the task ahead this term as former “super league” side Sauchie won by four goals to nil. Two late goals did put a gloss on the result for the visitors but it would be fair to say that new keeper Macaulay Jarrett kept his team in it early on. The manager made a few changes from the team that won at Golspie in the cup at the weekend with Pete Bell, Callum McAulay and Scott Powrie all getting a place in the starting eleven. Tom Graham, Rab Kinnaird and JP McPhail dropped out for various reasons.

Jarrett saved twice with his legs in the first five minutes with the visitors Ryan Millar missing both chances, much to the frustration of his team mates. The Shippy replied with a free-kick into to the box that Sandy Strang headed across the face of goal but frustratingly just out of reach of the inrushing Callum McAulay. It was starting to look like the Millar and Jarrett show and once again It was the big Shippy keeper who came out on top as he thwarted the Sauchie forward with a decent save. Reece Brown found space in the visitor’s box, however, his strike was at a good height for keeper Dolan who pushed the ball round the post for a corner. From the resultant set piece Dean Anderson headed wide from a good position. Sauchie finished the half on top and saw both Millar again and Langton denied by Jarrett.

Sauchie broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Darren Cummings latched onto Miller’s flick on and he beat Jarrett with a cool finish. Sauchie were now in control and the Shippy had the post to thank to keep out sub Craig Donaldson’s strike. The visitors scored a second in the 72nd minute when Langton finished off a fine move and the same player was denied by the post minutes later. The Shippy were on the ropes now and Sauchie added two more late goals thanks to Langton again a counter from Wells. Sandwiched in between was a red card for Shipyard sub Sam Glancy who received a second yellow card for simulation.
