Burntisland Shipyard. 2 Strathmiglo United. 5

On a bright and blustery day Strathmiglo turned in a fine display to beat an understrength Shipyard at Recreation Park. It was always going to be a tough ask for the Shipyard, up against so many ex Junior and professional players The first chance of the match after 12 minutes fell to ex Shipyard player McCreadie but he shot wide. 6 minutes later Strath should have taken the lead after a great run by Nicol but, he chose to shoot when his team mates were in a better position. Shipyard keeper Chalmers then produced a fine save when he touched a header from a freekick onto the post. The Shipyard were starting to get into the game and Johnston had an effort saved by Strath keeper Sampson. Muirhead, Millar and Johnston all had long range efforts for the Shipyard but nothing really threatened the Strath goal. In the 42nd minute chalmers had another good save, this time from Liam Baillie. The last chance of the first half fell to the Shipyard’s Bristow but his lob over the keeper also cleared the crossbar.
Strathmiglo started the second half well and Chalmers had to save with his legs when a Strath forward was clean through on him. The opener came in the 50th minute when McLaughlin was through on Chalmers and he made no mistake slotting the ball home. 2 minutes later it was 2-0 when L. Baillie knocked home a cut back from the left-hand side. It was one way traffic towards the Shipyard goal and in 59 minutes it was 3-0, this time McKie the scorer. Johnston then had an effort saved by the Strath keeper but a minute later it was 4-0 when McCreadie latched onto another long ball and lobbed Chalmers to score. In the 67th minute the Shipyard pulled one back when Neil Johnston guided the ball home after a fine pass from Bristow. In the 76th minute substitute McCue almost got another one back when his lob had the keeper scrambling across his goal to claw the ball away. The Shipyard did pull another goal back when they were awarded a penalty after Strath failed to clear an effort from McCue, the ball was played back into the 6 yard box where it was handled. Jim Hardie converted the kick in fine style. It was Strath who had the last word in the final minute when sub Ford scored from a McCreadie pass.
