Active Nation Scottish Cup 2nd Round
Edinburgh City 5. Burntisland Shipyard 1.
The Shipyard almost made a whirlwind start when after 2mins Brian Muirhead lobbed the keeper from all of 40 yards but saw his effort hit the bar. City took the lead in 11mins after some poor defending allowed Denholm in to score. Shipyard responded and after good build up play Neil Johnston had a chance but was crowded out. It became 2-0 in 24 mins when McFarland scored with a good finish and in 36 mins Clee made it 3-0.
In the 39th minute the Shipyard were awarded a penalty when the keeper Monteith brought down O’Hanlon in the box. To everyone’s surprise no card was shown, when it looked like a goalscoring opportunity. Muirhead scored to give the Shipyard a lifeline. A few minutes later he almost did it again, this time his free kick from 25 yards hit the post.
The second half was a lot less eventful with only O’Hanlon going close with a snap shot after the keeper came out to head a clearance straight to him. In the last 10 mins goals from Clee and Ross made it 5-1 to somewhat flatter the margin of a deserved City win.
