Kinnoull 6-2 Burntisland Shipyard

Shipyard crash out of King Cup.

The Shipyard crashed out of the King Cup in disappointing fashion losing 6-2 to Kinnoull at Tulloch Park on Saturday. A woeful first half an hour put paid to the Shippy’s chances as they were four goals behind by that stage. A goal just before half-time from Shaun Keatings gave a glimmer of hope, however, an early goal in the second half for the hosts quickly extinguished a Shipyard comeback. With Craig Watt suspended and Sam Glancy unavailable there were starting places for Sandy Strang and Ryan O’Donnell following last week’s win at Lochgelly.

The Shipyard fell behind in the eighth minute following a fine strike from the Kinnoull forward after he had latched on to a through ball. The Shipyard lost three goals in a crazy six minute spell midway through the half with the first in the 24th minute looking suspiciously offside. It was three nil before the Shippy had time to regroup and by the 30th minute it was 4-0 with the Shippy in disarray. The Shippy settled and got a goal back in the 41st minute when Keatings’ cross come shot found the back of the net.

Kinnoull scored a fifth at the start of the second half when their player was on hand to knock the ball home after it had rebounded back off the bar. Iain Miller gave the Shippy a bit of hope as he headed home a Keatings corner in the 53rd minute. Kinnoull quickly restored their four goal advantage with a breakaway goal on the hour mark that settled the tie once and for all. The Shippy were dealt a blow as O’Donnell had to leave the field with a suspected dislocated shoulder and he was replaced by Matty Miller. The Shipyard had created several chances throughout the match and had they taken some of them, particularly at crucial times, things might have been different. That being said, it’s difficult to win when you are conceding six at the other end.

We return to league duty next week (27/11/2021) with a home match against Stirling University. Kick off is at the usual time of 2.30pm.
