Another away day with Kirkcudbright the destination.
Once again the Shipyard will be on their travels after the draw was made for the William Hill Scottish Cup preliminary rounds today, with old rivals St Cuthbert Wanderers hosting the Shippy on Saturday 15th August 2015. Incredibly this is now the ninth season and the eleventh draw in a row that has not produced a home tie for the Club.
St Cuthbert need no introduction to the older generation of Shipyard supporters with the Clubs having met on several occasions, most notably the 1971 Qualifying Cup final where the St Mary’s Park outfit came out on top 5 – 3 over the two legged final. In January 1995 a Rab Matthew hat-trick helped the Shippy to 6 – 2 win in the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup in front of the television cameras at Recreation Park. The last meeting took place in September 1998 in a Qualifying Cup replay when a wonder strike from David Costello in injury time won the match for the Shippy at St Mary’s Park.
The winners of the tie will unsurprisingly be on their travels in the next round to face either Golspie Sutherland or Cove Rangers.
