Steelmen too strong for Shipyard youngsters.
The Shipyard U/20’s run in the SFA Youth Cup came to an end on Sunday as they were comprehensively beaten by Motherwell at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. However, the boys can hold their heads up high having beaten an SPFL championship side in the previous round and getting the opportunity to play this match. It was always going to be a monumental task to compete with a full time professional Premiership club, who operate five tiers above the Shipyard in the Scottish football pyramid, and so it proved as the Steelmen scored nine goals without reply. The fact that the boys never gave up is testament to their character and that of their coaches and they can take positives from this when they return to league duty on Friday night.
Motherwell controlled the match from start to finish and after going ahead in the eight minute they never eased off scoring at regular intervals. The Motherwell goal scorers were Agyeman x2, Turnbull x2, Falconer, Brown, Scott, Starrs and a Walls own goal. The Shipyard never really threatened the Motherwell goal as the home team dominated possession for almost the entire ninety minutes.
