No Gala Performance From Shipyard

Gala Fairydean 2 – 1 Burntisland Shipyard

The visitors were left to rue their inability to defend set pieces once again as they lost this match on the artificial Netherdal surface.

The Shipyard welcomed back Brendan Napier after his holiday and he was influential as the game flowed from end to end without many goal scoring opportunities.

Burntisland’s first opportunity came in the 27th minute when Dale Robertson did well to create space wide on the right and his cross narrowly evaded the outstretched leg of Stevie Connor and the ball was gathered by the Gala keeper.

Shortly afterwards, the home side took the lead. A strong run from the Gala midfield was brought to an abrupt halt by Blair Grubb inside the box and Jason Darling made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The Shipyard drew level in the 55th minute when a Dale Robertson effort from outside the box looked to be heading goalwards before hitting the arm of a defender. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot for the second time in the match and Brendan Napier capped his return with a confident strike past the keeper.

Gala regained the lead in the 65th minute when Jason Darling rose unchallenged at the back post to nod past Couser and ensure the 3 points stayed in the borders.
