Shipyard get pre-season under way with win

Links United 2 Burntisland Shipyard 5.

The Shipyard got their pre-season under way with a comfortable win over Edinburgh amateur outfit Links United at Broughton High School. The loss of two goals and the way they came about and also the fact that several good chances were squandered  would have been a disappointment to the management. However, with this being the first outing of the season it was not a bad way to start. With several of the more senior players unavailable it gave a chance for some of the  new younger signings and a couple of trialists to make their mark. Connor McManus made his debut from the start with JP McPhail and Billy Rogerson coming on as subs during the match.

The match was played in three thirty minute periods and in the 17th minute of the first the Shipyard took the lead when Brendan Napier slotted home a penalty after a handball in the box. Five minutes into the second period the visitors doubled their lead when trialist Daniel Watt knocked home a cross from Pete Bell. Fellow trialist Shaun Keatings then scored a fine solo goal to put the Shipyard three up before a nightmare couple of minutes prior to the break saw United back in the match as firstly trialist keeper Jay Buglass fumbled a shot from distance and secondly a penalty was conceded that was dispatched beyond Buglass. In the third period the Shipyard scored twice more as Napier scored from the spot again after Dale Robertson had been fouled. Jamie Fyfe completed the scoring after good work by Keatings.
