Selkirk Stalemate

Burntisland Shipyard 1 – 1 Selkirk

Neither side could do enough to earn the three points in this evenly contested 1st Division encounter.

Chances were at a premium in the opening stages as both teams struggled to deal with the fiery surface and strong wind.

The home side looked to have opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Jordan Crombie got on the end of a Stevie Connor cross at the back post but the referee ruled it out for offside against the midfielder.

It was the visitors who took the lead in the 40th minute. A long clearance caught the Shipyard defence on their heels and Michael Holness ran through before stroking the ball past Couser.

It took just 4 minutes for the home side to equalise though. A goal bound effort from Dale Robertson was halted by the arm of a defender and Brendan Napier made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The second half was also short of genuine goal scoring chances although Gavin Bridges will be disappointed not to have put his back post header on target after getting on the end of Stevie Connor’s corner in the 49th minute.

Brendan Napier cut inside from the right after 70 minutes but his curling effort went narrowly wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

The last chance of the match came in the 88th minute and fell to Selkirk’s Robert Gay who struck a direct free-kick with power but Couser did well to save at full stretch.
