Burntisland Shipyard. 0 Hearts XI. 9

The Shipyard suffered a heavy defeat and a footballing lesson from a stronger than anticipated Hearts team that featured 5 players with SPL experience. Kucharski, Stewart, Mulrooney, Wittenveen and Smith all played for Hearts first team at some stage last season. The Shipyard had most of their squad available for this prestigious friendly.

Before a decent crowd it was Hearts who scored within a minute with Wittenveen netting the first of his 4 goals. Steven Tasker produced a fantastic tackle to stop a certain goal before the Shipyard began to settle and get a foothold in the game. Injuries to Neil Johnston and Dean Johnstone didn’t help the Shipyard cause and Smith scored before half-time to make it 2-0.

Hearts started the second half as the first and scored quick goals to put the game way beyond the Shipyard. The more the game wore on the sharpness and quality of the Hearts team told, and in the end the Shipyard were glad to hear the final whistle. Manager Billy Whitehead said he was pleased with how his players performed against such good opposition and added that they can only benefit from the match in both fitness and experience. Burntisland Shipyard would like to thank Heart of Midlothian for kindly agreeing to come to Burntisland for the match.
