Sloppy mistakes cost Shippy

Burntisland Shipyard 1-4 Cupar Hearts.

Poor defending and passing up good chances is always a recipe for disaster and that is exactly what happened for the Shipyard on Saturday as they lost this feisty encounter 4-1 to Cupar Hearts.

Losing three goals from corners will certainly give the Shippy management team food for thought with the big kick off now less than a week away. In fairness, the defence dealt well with the visitor’s attacks in open play, nonetheless, work still needs to be done.

At the other end of the pitch the forwards created numerous chances, particularly in the first half, and had it not been for the post, good goalkeeping and a poor offside decision, then it would have been an entirely different outcome. Brodie Hamilton scored the Shipyard’s goal early in the second half when his free-kick from the left-hand side of the box eluded everyone before nestling in the far corner.

On what was like a winter’s afternoon with heavy rain and a biting wind both sets of players served up an entertaining match for the hardy souls that braved the conditions to watch it.
