Townhill U/15’s 2 Burntisland Shipyard U/15’s 2.
The Shipyard youngsters secured the point they needed to clinch the championship, their second in a row, at rain swept Townhill Park though they had to hold on after a tremendous fight back from their hosts.
After a goalless first half the Shipyard scored two goals early in the second half through Luke Thomson and Ryan Stewart (cue a sharp exit for the watching Blue Brazil contingent) and looked to be on easy street as they continued to press the Townhill defence. However, the homesters never gave in and two fine goals in the closing minutes had the Shipyard boys panicking, indeed they even survived a strong penalty shout in the last minute. However, they held on to the final whistle which sparked joyous scenes as the boys celebrated their championship win.
After the match a delighted Costy said “I’m over the moon. The boys have done well all season and although they were a bit nervous tonight they got over the line. At two nil we should have put the game beyond Townhill as we had several chances to do so, however, it doesn’t matter now, the league is won and I am delighted for my players”.
