Burntisland Shipyard. 1 Star Hearts. 2
The Shipyard slumped to their first defeat under Billy Whitehead’s reign after Star’s deserved victory at Recreation Park. A heavy pitch made underfoot conditions difficult, which resulted in a poor match with neither team creating a lot of chances.
Star started the better and had most of the possession, but it was the Shipyard who took the lead in the 13th minute when Neil Johnston latched onto a loose ball in the box and stroked it under the keeper for his 7th goal of the season. The Shipyard looked like holding on to their lead until half-time but, in the 44th minute a clearance reached Reid outside the box and he sent an unstoppable shot raging into the corner of the net. At the start of the second half a good through ball from Hamilton set up another chance for Johnston but, this time his shot was saved by keeper Pratt. In the 52nd miute the shipyard fell behind when a cross from the left was headed into the net by a Star forward. The Shipyard pushed looking for an equalizer but never really threatened to do so, indeed, it was Star who missed a great chance late on to seal it, when Chalmers pulled off a fine save in a one on one situation.
