Dundonald. 7 Burntisland Shipyard. 5 (aet)

Fife Amateur Cup 2nd Round

Dundonald AFC 7 Burntisland Shipyard 5 (aet)

Shipyard bowed out of this seasons Fife Cup in a bizarre match at Wallsgreen Park. The fact that only 11 players turned up was no excuse for such a poor performance against a determined Dundonald side.  The Shipyard were a goal down inside 2 minutes when Coull was lobbed from distance, however, goals from O’Hanlon and Nairn had the Shipyard ahead inside 15 mins. Both teams were creating chances and it was Dundonald who took their’s to establish a 3-2 lead at half-time.

A minute into the second half and Dundonald stretched their lead. The Shipyard were now up against it but, got back into the match courtesy of an own goal. In the 75th minute it was all square when Nairn netted his second goal on his debut. The goals kept flowing and in 81 minutes Dundonald were ahead again, once more the Shipyard drew level, this time from a Cook header. Full time saw the match end 5-5 and go into extra time. Two quick goals from Dundonald in the first half of extra finally saw the Shipyard off.

All in all it was a very disappointing day for Burntisland Shipyard in which the club suffered one of it’s most embarassing defeats in many a year.

Team: Coull, Hardie, Tasker, Cook, Huskie, Noble, Ferguson, Hutt, O’Hanlon, Johnston, Nairn.
