Stirling University 0-0 Burntisland Shipyard

Stalemate in the Stirling sunshine.

The Shipyard are rapidly becoming the draw specialists with their third in a row as it ended goalless between Stirling Uni and Shippy, with both teams having their keepers to thank. Both Scott Costello and Yan Gromov Godik turned in fine performances making numerous saves ensuring the score sheet remained blank. The Shipyard squad was stretched to the limits with no fewer than seven players unavailable for various reasons. Shipyard manager Dave Costello was full of praise for his players when he spoke after the match saying “I can’t praise the boys highly enough for the commitment and character they showed. The twelve guys that took the field and played in such heat were a credit to themselves.” He went on to say, “I thought Scott was very good today, making some crucial saves and was probably our man of the match.”

Shipyard started well and spurned a great chance to open the scoring with four minutes on the clock. The ball was worked to Darrell Anthony whose shot was parried by Godik and it fell to Ben Anthony with Godik once again parrying the strike. At the other end Costello saved from Jack Docherty in the 9th minute and then from Cameron McKinley five minutes later. B. Anthony had a couple of strikes at goal around the twenty minute mark, however, neither troubled Godik. Costy blocked an attempt from Docherty and from the resultant corner a headed effort hit the outside of the post. D. Anthony had a shot blocked by the defence and then B. Anthony saw his shot cleared off the line as the half drew to a close.

Eight minutes into the second half Costello was again in action as he saved from Stuart Frankland and at the other end Shipyard claimed for a penalty as B. Anthony went down in the box, however, the referee correctly waved play on. D. Anthony did well to engineer some space in the box and his shot from the angle was pushed round the post by Godik. Shipyard had a couple of scares late on when a corner was headed over and right at the death Iain Millar produced a great block to deny the hosts.
