The Shipyard kicked off their pre-season with a 2 – 2 draw against FC Kelty at Recreation Park. With holiday commitments and T in the Park hangovers it was a depleted and youthful squad that took the field. Two first half goals from Mark Hamilton and Mark Brough had the Shipyard leading comfortably and always looking the likelier until Kelty scored from a corner with 15 minutes to go. Kelty then equalised with a somewhat dubious penalty in the closing stages, given for handball, after the ball hit the Shipyard defender from a yard away. All in all manager Billy Whitehead was happy with the performance and said “The players done well against a very physical team and this will stand them in good stead for the challenges ahead”.
