This Saturday is the first match in a sequence of 5 away trips out of our next 7 games and promises to be a very tough one.
Eyemouth United are currently in 3rd place and that is a clear indication as to the quality that they have in their side. I know that they have some very good players and will be looking to bounce back after their extra-time defeat at Gala Fairydean last week. From my own playing days, I know that Eyemouth is a tough place to go and we will need to be at our very best in order to get a result down there. Given the situation that Jason and I found ourselves in when we joined the club, it was inevitable that there would be a number of new faces joining the squad and Saturday’s match is the first taste of competitive action for a number of the new signings. Mikey Couser, Anesu Tabengwa, Ben Anthony and Lee Henderson are all available for the first time. All four of them played well in our friendly win on Wednesday night against Aberdour U19s. Blair Grubb aggravated his recent thigh strain during the week but is hopeful of a quick recovery and should be available.
The attitude in training and Wednesday’s match has been exactly what we’ve been looking for and there is a bit of a buzz about the place now which is good, especially with so many new signings getting to know each other. The squad building hasn’t stopped and I’m still looking to add 3 or 4 new faces over the next week or two as it’s still a bit threadbare. It’s important, though, that anyone that is brought in is of the right quality and mentality to play at East of Scotland level and I strongly believe that those who have come in recently are good enough to start taking the team up the league.
