2015-2016 Season, Match Reports
Sloppy Shippy slip up again.
It’s starting to sound like a stuck record but once again the Shipyard only have themselves to blame for their latest defeat after going down 2-1 to Craigroyston at St Mark’s Park on Saturday. Both goals were highly avoidable and although the Shipyard had lots of possession in and around the Craigy box they did not have the guile to find a goal that would have given them at least a draw. With Andy MacDonald and Ben Saunders on holiday and Kevin Masson a late call off, the already thin squad was stretched so that meant a debut for loan signing Gavin Sullivan who has arrived from Rosyth Juniors. Shipyard suffer narrow defeat.
The Shipyard lost out in a five goal thriller to Spartans though with a bit of luck it could have been the home team who came out on top. With a few players missing for various reasons, manager Alex Lowe was forced to make a number of changes to the line-up though the squad was bolstered with the return of Andy MacDonald from suspension and Mark James from injury.
The Shipyard were quick to start with Kevin Masson, seeing the keeper off his line, tried a lob from the kick off which was just off target. Seconds later the same player had a shot on target that keeper Morton spilled. Pete Bell was quick to react playing the ball across the face of goal for a Ewan Henderson tap in to give the Shippy an early lead. With only four minutes on the clock a mis-throw from the Spartans keeper fell to Masson but his shot sailed over the bar.
Big Hendo opened the scoring for the Shippy
Following the Shipyard’s lively start, Spartans began to settle and in the 16th minute the ball was cut back to Rossi who gave the keeper no chance with a well-placed shot into Jordan Mushet’s top left hand corner. The Shipyard had the best of the next ten minutes with Adam Doig being foiled by the keeper’s legs from six yards and John Paul McPhail linking well Henderson to produce another opportunity. In 25th minute the pressure paid off and it was Masson who fired home from the edge of the box to re-instate the Shipyard’s lead.
A few minutes later, however, the visitor’s Anderson tumbled in the Shipyard box and the referee pointed to the spot. Howat’s kick was well parried by Mushet who had to react immediately to make a second save from Anderson’s follow-up. There was little excitement for the rest of the half although Shipyard continued to look the more dangerous.
The second half started fairly evenly with chances at both ends but it was Spartans who notched the equaliser when a well-placed pass found Atkinson in some space and he coolly placed the ball wide of Mushet. The Shipyard were still making chances with Ethan Anderson shooting over from 25 yards and then good work by McPhail engineering an opening that had the Spartans defence in a scramble to clear of the line.
Spartans’ pressure in the 68th minute saw Mushet turn an Anderson drive for a corner. The initial kick was cleared to the edge of the box where players from both sides clashed in their attempts to gain control. The referee awarded the benefit of doubt to the attacking side and it was from this free-kick that Dickson notched what was to prove the winner for Spartans.
James replaced Darrell Anthony as the Shipyard looked for an equaliser. They made two or three chances in the dying minutes but Spartans held on for the victory.
Manager Lowe was reasonably upbeat after the match when he said “Although we did not get anything from today’s game against Spartans it was certainly a much improved performance from the boys, particularly in the first half where we should have scored two or three more goals. The effort and commitment from the boys was excellent and we were very unlucky that the winning goal from a free-kick, that should not have been given in the first place, but it was a great free kick from the Spartans boy. In the second half we did not push forward enough and test their young goalkeeper out. I am looking for the same effort and commitment from the boys for next week’s me against Craigroyston.

Shippy suffer second four goal defeat in a row.
It was a case of déjà vu for the Shippy on Wednesday night as again missed chances and poor defending cost them dear. Manager Alex Lowe was forced to shuffle his pack with Andy MacDonald suspended and Graeme Haywood joining the injured list whilst Ben Couper dropped out of the starting eleven. Ethan Anderson, Pete Bell and Ben Saunders all started after being on the bench at the weekend. Continue Reading

Peebles to the four.
Although the 4-0 scoreline flattered Peebles it was still the same old story for the Shipyard of missed chances and sloppy goals conceded as last week’s fine win at Eyemouth soon became a distant memory. Manager Alex Lowe unsurprisingly went with the same starting eleven that did so well on their previous outing. Continue Reading

Eyemouth hit for six in Shipyard stroll.
Although Kevin Masson and Adam Doig shared five goals between them, Shipyard Coach Tommy Roxburgh was quick to point out to the players as they warmed down, that this was very much a team performance as every player involved played his part in the 6-0 thrashing of Eyemouth United at a wet and windy Warner Park. Manager Alex Lowe echoed Tommy’s sentiments when he said “It was a great performance from the boys today, good handling, distribution and two or three good saves from Jordan. A tight defence that gave up few chances, a hard-working and creative midfield and good finishing from our forwards, though if you want to be greedy they could have scored more. That was our best performance so far this season, in difficult windy conditions here at Eyemouth. I was very pleased with the teams display today and hopefully we will take a bit of confidence into next week’s game against Peebles”.
Kev Masson gave Eyemouth defence a torrid afternoon.
With the elements behind them the Shippy took the initiative from the off and in the 5th minute Masson saw his 30 yard free-kick crash back off the bar. The Shipyard took the lead in the 12th minute with a neat goal from another free-kick. Dale Robertson flighted the ball into the box, Ewan Henderson cut it back from the by-line and Doig was on hand to turn the ball home from 10 yards out. Masson made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when he gathered the ball, rounded the keeper and eventually poked the ball home. Masson supplied the third goal after 31 minutes when he crossed for Doig to knock home from close range. The 4th goal 7 minutes before half-time was a brilliant solo effort from Masson as he beat three Eyemouth defenders in the box then coolly stroked the ball home. Craig Lowe, Darrell Anthony and Doig again all went close as the Shippy dominated the half. United’s only response was a shot from Sean Campbell that drifted wide.
John Paul McPhail replaced Lowe at half-time with the latter having to leave due to work commitments but all credit to Craig for travelling in the first place. Anthony hit the bar with a fine strike early in the second half and McPhail was unfortunate when he could not steer the rebound on target. Masson saw three attempts to complete his hat-trick thwarted, twice by the keeper and once when a free-kick narrowly cleared the crossbar. In between these efforts Jordan Mushet showed good concentration when he tipped over a speculative long range effort and produced a better save when he denied Eyemouth from the resultant corner. Anthony showed great skill at the edge of the box to engineer shooting opportunity, however for the youngster, his shot went agonisingly wide. Masson completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute when he tapped home from close range after McPhail set up the easy chance for him. Both Anthony and Doig went close again before Pete Bell rounded off the scoring in the 81st minute when he produced a fine finish from another McPhail pass. The match also saw Ben Couper make his debut for the Shipyard having signed during the week.

2015-2016 Season, Match Reports
Too many mistakes as the Shipyard suffer heavy defeat.
The Shipyard had no answer to this young new look Spartans side as they shipped seven goals without reply at Ainslie Park. The Lowland League team proved far too good for the Shippy in all departments, though several defensive errors did not help matters at all. The Shipyard conceded five goals in the closing twenty four minutes as they ran out of steam after their exertions in the midweek friendly at Hill of Beath seemed to take their toll. Continue Reading

Five star Shipyard hit the goal trail.
The Shipyard ran out comfortable 5-0 winners against Kelso United with the only surprise being that the margin of victory was not much greater. A combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the scoreline down as the Shippy more or less dominated the match from start to finish. Goals from Adam Doig, Brendan Napier and Kevin Masson had the home team three nil up at the interval and a brace from substitute Blair Smart in the second half completed the scoring. Pete Bell, Craig Lowe, Andy MacDonald and Ewan Henderson were all missing from last week’s team which meant starting places for Dale Robertson, Ethan Anderson and goal scorers Napier and Masson.
It took the Shipyard a little while to find their feet and although they had more of the ball in the early stages did not create many chances. That changed in the 19th minute when Doig converted a JP McPhail cross. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Napier took a Robertson pass inside the box and stroked the ball home. Masson hit the third in the 39th minute when he stabbed the ball home from close range after another attempt was blocked. Kelso saw an effort hit the bar a couple of minutes before have time in a rare foray into the Shipyard box.
Blair Smart helped himself to a double.
Smart replaced Darrell Anthony early in the second half and looked like he had a point to prove having been missing for the last couple of matches. Smart got to grips immediately in the midfield as the Shippy created chance after chance as they looked like over running the visitors. Napier drove over after good build up play and Masson did likewise after being set up by Robertson. Doig then intercepted a pass back only to sclaff his shot into the side netting when a square pass may have been the better option. Kelso keeper William Stewart saved from Napier before the same man fired wide from a good position. Stewart then produced a fine save from a fierce Robertson shot with Doig hitting the loose ball over. Shippy keeper Jordan Mushet then produced a decent save after having watched the action for most of the game. Back at the other end Stewart again denied Robertson with a good stop. However, Stewart was helpless in the 72nd minute as Doig crossed for Smart to head home at the back post. Smart then drove forward and saw his powerfully hit shot just clear the bar. Smart was involved in everything as the match wore on and his free-kick from the edge of the box was not too far away. Fittingly it was that man Smart who rounded off the scoring with the goal of the game when he went on a solo run, rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle to round off a man of the match display. Doig had another chance in the dying seconds but produced a poor finish when presented with a glorious opportunity to grab his second goal.
A delighted Alex Lowe said after the match “I am very pleased with the result and clean sheet against Kelso. Last season we struggled against the same opposition and today we went for a positive formation and created lots of chances. A combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the score down a bit. Kelso put us under a bit of pressure in the second half and it was good to finish the game without losing a goal. We had some good passages of play and our midfield all worked hard and played well”. Looking ahead to next week Alex added” We have a very difficult game against Lowland league Spartans next week and we will need to carry a positive attitude into the game. It is very much a game we can all look forward to and enjoy though”.

Robertson to the rescue as Shippy gain point.
A resilient Shipyard stuck to their task and earned a share of the spoils after super sub Dale Robertson scored an injury time equaliser to deny hosts Ormiston a win that they probably deserved over the piece. Jordan Mushet, Todd Arthur, Darrell Anthony and Mark James returned to the starting line-up following last week’s defeat in the Scottish. Continue Reading
