Burntisland Shipyard 3-0 Easthouses Lily MW

Super strike caps dominant display.

The Shipyard gathered another three points on Saturday and maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over visitors Easthouses Lily MW. Not for the first time it was the Anthony brothers with the goals as Darrell opened the scoring and Ben’s double in the second half sealed the victory, with his second an outstanding individual effort. Once again, the sun was shining in Burntisland as the match kicked off with a healthy crowd in attendance. Shippy’s injury list had eased slightly though the goalkeeping coach and three trialists were listed on the bench.

Shipyard had a chance with barely a minute having elapsed as Jack Wilson found space in the box, however, Lily keeper Liam Amos blocked his shot. Shippy took the lead with eighteen minutes on the clock when D. Anthony rose highest in the box to powerfully head home from a corner. The hosts continued to have the greater possession though no clear cut chances were created and the visitors should have punished them on 37 minutes but Iain Millar and keeper Scott Costello both bravely blocked goal bound efforts. D. Anthony almost scored a carbon copy of his goal, however, this time he couldn’t keep his header under the bar.

Darrell Anthony opens the scoring.

Shippy went close with a Shaun Keatings free-kick at the start of the second half and Wilson headed a Keatings cross wide on the hour mark. Shippy doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Wilson played B. Anthony through on goal and the striker kept his composure and coolly slotted the ball home. Easthouses almost got one back but Lewis Russell’s fierce drive hit the bar and went over. It was all over with nine minutes remaining as B. Anthony scored a wonderful solo goal. Benji gathered the ball deep inside his own half and beat two players out wide as he drove forward, he cut inside and beat the same players again then fired the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box sparking wild celebrations on and off the park. Keatings was shown a red card for something he said in the aftermath of the goal leaving Shipyard to play out the final few minutes with ten men. (see goal by pasting link into your browser)

After the match manager Dave Costello was full of praise for the defenders when he said, “Once again I have to give great credit to my defence for keeping another clean sheet with big Milzy outstanding.” He went on to add “Benji probably gets man of the match for his goals with the second really special, that being said, it was very much a team performance. The negatives were big Sandy’s injury and obviously Keatsy getting a red card, especially with the games coming thick and fast.”
