Stirling University 6 Burntisland Shipyard 0

Students teach Shippy a lesson.

The Shipyard’s nightmare season continued in Stirling as the local students ran out all too easy 6-0 winners at the Gannochy sports Centre. After conceding a shocker of a goal in the 5th minute it was one way traffic as the students racked up four goals in the opening 45 minutes. The Shippy did improve in the second period but lost a goal at the start and finish of the half as the hosts rounded off the scoring. Cammy Lambie returned in goals as he replaced Marcus Taylor with a trialist starting up front in place of Denis Ginc.

After the loss of that early goal the Shipyard defence did keep Stirling at bay for the next 35 minutes thanks to the crossbar and a couple of good Lambie saves, however, that good work was undone with the loss of three sloppy goals in a five-minute period. The concession of an early goal at the start of the second half looked ominous for the Shippy but to their credit they came more into the match and started to threaten the University goal. The best effort came through a powerful Marc Black header from a corner but keeper Sam McLean brilliantly tipped the ball over. The goal scoring was completed with three minutes remaining as the students scored their sixth. The scorers for Stirling University were David McCaughie x 3, Malcolm Burgess x 2 and Harry Ball.

The Shipyard are on their travels again on Wednesday night when they head across the Forth to face Tynecastle at Saughton Enclosure  (7.45pm kick off) and on Saturday it off to the  borders to face Coldstream (2.30pm kick off).
