Burntisland Shipyard. 2 Lumphinnans United. 2

Both teams served up a very good game at Recreation Park. Lumphinnans with no fewer than seven ex-Shipyard players in their ranks plus three out injured, obviously arrived with something to prove. Shipyard manager Whitehead made one change to the starting line-up from Saturday with Allan replacing the injured Cook. Brown somehow recovered from his injury to take his place in the team.

Lumphinnans broke the deadlock in the 8th minute with Sartarello scoring a trademark headed goal, rising at the back post to beat keeper Chalmers to the ball and head over him into the net. Johnston had a chance a minute later to equalise but, his effort was wide. Johnston went close again in the 13th minute, this time the keeper parried the ball away but, only to O’Hanlon who saw his shot blocked for a corner. Lumphinnans almost caught the Shipyard out with a quick free-kick but, Chalmers was alert to save comfortably. Both teams were creating opportunities and Johnston turned and shot over. A free-kick from Muirhead was high and wide, then Lumphinnans had a chance when Dair had a shot saved by Chalmers. In the 31st minute after a great run from Hamilton,  his left foot shot was heading in until McGregor somehow tipped it onto the underside of the bar and the ball was scrambled clear. Then a minute later the Shipyard hit the woodwork again when O’Hanlon’s speculative shot left the keeper stranded but, his effort bounced back off the post. Dair again had a good chance when he was through on Chalmers but, he could not beat him as Chalmers gathered the ball. On 40 minutes Lumphinans took a 2-0 lead when Sutherland struck a fine left foot shot over Chalmers and into the net. The Shipyard had the last chance of the half when Allan headed over from Brown’s corner.

Johnston had the first chance of the second half for the Shipyard but, McGregor blocked his shot. Chalmers then produced a good save from Hardie,before Adamson headed wide from a good position. The Shipyard were back in the game in the 53rd when O’Hanlon, the keeper and a defender all went for the ball and it broke to Neil Johnston who rolled the ball into the empty net. The Shipyard were pressing for an equaliser but could not create a clear cut chance. In the 70th minute substitute Forrest had a shot at goal which went well wide, then 3 minutes later Huskie crossed to McCue who laid the ball off to Hamilton, his scuffed shot fell to O’Hanlon but, he could not direct his effort on goal. 4 minutes from time Mark Hamilton scored a fine equaliser for the Shipyard striking a great shot from 20 yards over the keeper and into the net. Lumphinnans were now happy to settle for a draw as the Shipyard were now on top and looking the stronger team. There were to be no more goals in what was a hard fought contest with a draw probably the fair result, though the Shipyard may point to the two efforts that hit the woodwork as being the closest to another goal.
