After Saturday’s match at Hibs Myles spoke about the game and looked ahead to the remainder of the season. Asked about his thoughts on the proceedings at East Mains he said “Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and congratulate the opposition on a good performance. However, I don’t think that we helped ourselves, especially in the first half and there are a couple of specific things that I am not happy about and I let the players know that. We were playing against a very good side which included a couple of players with first team experience and a vastly experienced player in Kevin Thomson who was outstanding. Their movement and circulation of the ball was excellent although we gave them far too much time and space and made it too easy for them to get in behind us”. He was disappointed with his own team’s ball retention and was keen to emphasise “When we did have the ball, especially in the first half, we didn’t show any composure or confidence to make passes and retain possession”. He went on to add “We are definitely a better team than what we displayed in this match. However, it comes after a decent run in the league and it’s important that we don’t dwell on this, although we would be foolish not to learn some lessons from it”.

Looking ahead to the rest of the campaign Myles said “We now have seven league matches remaining and the target is to get to 3rd place. There really is nothing between any of the sides outwith the top two and realistically any one of the eight remaining teams could claim that 3rd place. With so many changes likely to take place in the summer between the East of Scotland League and the Lowland League, there is a fair chance of some sort of restructuring so, like last season with Leith Athletic, finishing in 3rd place could end up being very beneficial. Berwick Rangers are in pole position for that at the moment but we have three games in hand over them and have also still got to go down to Shielfield Park before the end of the season”.

Asked about the form his team has been in he said “The Hibs match ended what was a decent run of results and performances in the league and if we can get back to how we were playing before that game then we have as much chance as anyone else of achieving what we are aiming for. On the flip side though, we cannot afford to turn up for any game with the wrong attitude as we’ve done that a couple of times this season and got what we deserved”. He was in no mood to say the season was over by adding “Although the two promotion spots are all but confirmed, there is no excuse for losing focus and we definitely won’t have any meaningless matches between now and the end of the season”.
